Scandinavia House, Manhattan

The American-Scandinavian Foundation’s Scandinavia House presents Nordic Models + Common Ground: Art and Design Unfolded, an exhibition organized by Norsk Form in collaboration with The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF). The exhibition is curated by the internationally renowned architecture firm Snøhetta, which also designed the installation, in collaboration with Situ Studio. The first in a series of programs marking the ASF’s centennial, Nordic Models + Common Ground offers a visionary look at contemporary Nordic art and design, examining nascent trends and their impact on the global art and design communities. All of the Nordic countries—Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden—are represented.

28 Parliament Street.

Students at the Newark School of Violin Making battle to prevent the scrapping of lodgings/workshops at 28 Parliament Street. The building has been a boiling pot of creative violin making since the seventees. The kitchen table has been tagged with carvings of the dozens of violin makers that have lived and worked there.

Experimental prototype violin debut in Alexandria

fyrirlestur
Lecture on violin technology and architectural influence, resonance, acoustics at the Library of Alexandria, Egypt with Andreas Eggertsen and Kjetil Thorsen in october 2009.

The talk centered on the history of instrument making and the use of technology such as CT scanning and Modal Analysis in further understanding the workings of the violin family instruments, as well as describing a collaborative project between Olafur Eliasson, Andreas Eggertsen and Hans Johannsson. The project involves studies on the connection between harmonically induced shapes and sound propagation. The talk culminated in a performance of the second prototype of a violin based on these ideas, played by Kalid Oweida of the Library of Alexandria Orchestra.
